Psychoeducational Evaluations in Connecticut

Understand how your child learns. Find the best path forward.

Everpoint Education provides psychoeducational evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults in Connecticut. Our assessments help families understand learning strengths, academic challenges, attention, executive functioning, giftedness and more.

You may have noticed that school takes more effort than it should. You may be looking for another perspective on your child's needs or wondering what kind of support would help. We begin with your questions and build an evaluation around the information your family needs to move forward.

Evaluations start at $2,300 and include assessments, written report, personalized recommendations, and a feedback meeting.

What Can a Psychoeducational Evaluation Help You Understand?

A psychoeducational evaluation brings together assessment results, educational history, and information about everyday learning to explain a student's strengths and needs. At Everpoint Education, we connect the findings to practical recommendations for home, school, and future planning.

Families often reach out with questions such as:

  • Why is my child struggling with reading, writing, or math?

  • Why doesn't school performance reflect the effort my child puts in?

  • Could attention, memory, or organizational difficulties be affecting learning?

  • Why does homework take so long or feel overwhelming?

  • Does my child need greater academic challenge?

  • What information would help us discuss support with the school?

You do not need to arrive with a suspected diagnosis or a specific test in mind. Tell us what you are noticing, and we will discuss whether an evaluation is an appropriate next step.

What Do Our Evaluations Assess?

Everpoint's evaluations are tailored to the student's age, history, referral concerns, and the decisions the family hopes to make. We select assessment areas based on those questions. Not every student needs every type of testing.

For concerns involving ADHD, autism, or more complex developmental needs, contact us to discuss the appropriate evaluation scope. If you are seeking a neuropsychological evaluation, we can discuss your questions and current provider availability before scheduling.

Who Conducts the Evaluation?

Our psychoeducational evaluations are conducted by certified school psychologists with training in assessment, learning, and educational planning. This background helps connect testing findings to the questions families and school teams need to address.

Everpoint co-founder Kayla Widmeyer, M.S., Ed.S., is a certified school psychologist with more than a decade of experience supporting students and families. Her work focuses on understanding learning needs and translating assessment findings into useful recommendations.

We explain results in understandable language and make room for your questions. Your child's strengths remain part of the conversation throughout the process.

What Does the Evaluation Process Look Like?

1. Share Your Concerns

Start with our evaluation inquiry form. We follow up to learn about your child's history, the concerns you would like addressed, and any upcoming school meetings or deadlines. Together, we discuss whether our evaluation services fit your needs.

2. Confirm the Plan and Schedule

Before testing begins, we outline the assessment scope and fee, coordinate appointments, and explain the consent forms and background information needed. Relevant school records and prior evaluations can help guide the plan.

4. Interpret the Findings

We examine patterns across assessment results and background information. This helps us explain how the findings relate to your student's learning experiences and identify recommendations that address the original questions.

3. Complete Individualized Testing

Your student participates in assessments selected for their needs. Sessions are structured with attention to age, stamina, and appropriate breaks. Additional information from parents and, with appropriate consent, educators may help us understand learning across settings.

5. Review Results and Next Steps

You receive a comprehensive written report and a feedback meeting to review the findings. We explain recommendations, answer questions, and help you consider how the information can support educational planning.

When and Where Does Testing Take Place?

Everpoint Education is based in Branford and serves families throughout Connecticut. We discuss location and scheduling during the initial conversation so you know what to expect before committing to an evaluation.

Appointments are typically offered after school, including evening and weekend options, subject to availability. Testing takes place at an agreed-upon location suited to privacy, comfort, and the requirements of the assessment. We work with families to minimize disruption to the student's school day when possible.

How Much Does a Psychoeducational Evaluation Cost?

Comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations start at $2,300.

The final fee depends on the questions being addressed and the scope of assessment needed. Your evaluation includes individualized testing, a comprehensive written report, recommendations, and a feedback meeting. We discuss the proposed scope and cost before services begin.

If you also need consultation or participation in a school meeting, let us know during the initial conversation so that additional services and any fees can be discussed separately.

Independent Educational Evaluations and School Collaboration

Everpoint Education offers Independent Educational Evaluations, or IEEs. An IEE is completed by a qualified examiner who is not employed by the public agency responsible for the student's education. Families may seek an independent perspective to better understand learning needs and inform school discussions.

If you are seeking an IEE at public expense, ask your district for its IEE criteria and discuss funding arrangements before scheduling. Public funding is subject to the applicable process; it is not automatic for every privately arranged evaluation.

Read the U.S. Department of Education's IEE provisions.

Preparing for School Conversations

In Connecticut, the Planning and Placement Team, or PPT, determines special education eligibility and develops an eligible student's Individualized Education Program, or IEP. Families are members of that team. Evaluation findings can help inform these conversations; the evaluation itself does not guarantee eligibility, a particular placement, or specific services.

We help families understand findings and identify questions to bring to the school team. Consultation about school supports, including IEPs and Section 504 plans, can be discussed as part of your service needs. A Section 504 plan documents supports for an eligible student with a disability.

How Long Does the Evaluation Take?

2

The number of appointments and the overall timeline depend on the assessment scope, the student's needs, and scheduling. We discuss an anticipated timeline before testing begins. Please tell us about any school meeting, application, or other deadline when you inquire.

Will We Receive a Written Report?

3

Yes. Comprehensive evaluations include a written report explaining the findings and recommendations. During the feedback meeting, we review the results with you and discuss what they may mean for your student's next steps.

Can We Share the Report With Our Child's School?

4

Yes. Families may share the report to support conversations about learning needs and educational planning. Tell us how you hope to use the evaluation when you inquire, so we can discuss the questions the assessment should address.

Is an Evaluation the Same as Executive Function Coaching?

An evaluation helps clarify a student's strengths and support needs. Coaching provides ongoing practice with skills such as planning, organization, and following through. If your main concern is building those everyday skills, you can also explore Everpoint's coaching services.
